Pinewood Derby 2024

What you need to know…

This is your Pinewood Derby Event update with all the details! Pinewood Derby is made up of three events: Build Day, Test & Tune and Race Day. Each event is on the BAND calendar (and linked below) along with volunteer sign ups. Each Den’s arrival time for race day is also on the BAND calendar. Attached are the Guidelines (Rules, if you must) along with the race schedule that you can print out for reference.

🔨Build Day: Saturday, January 13th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Heritage; click here for more details.

Bring your car kit to Build Day and use the stations to design, cut, and sand your car and prep your wheels. Parents, scouts should lead the process, but will need your help, creativity and guidance. Scouts are not allowed to use power tools.

No need to RSVP. Just come sometime between 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM and work your way through the stations. If you arrive at 12:00 PM we will be closing up.

We will meet in front of Building D, the 2 story building across the street from the parking lot. We’ll use the portico to set up our stations. Stations:
Design: use paper, pencil, ruler and a sample design to draft your car’s shape and transfer it to your wooden block
Cut: an adult will cut your design out for you
Sand: smooth those fresh cuts to reduce drag and make a fast car
Wheel Prep: sand your axles so they spin smoothly.

🏎Test & Tune: Friday, January 19th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heritage; click here for more details

No need to RSVP, but please arrive between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM. If you arrive at 8:00 PM we will be closing up.

Bring your completed Pinewood Derby car for fine tuning and inspection. We’ll weigh, measure and test your car to make sure it is ready for race day. We’ll have the pit station set up for final adjustments/repairs that may need to be done. Once finalized all cars will stay overnight to be ready for race day.
